Cookie Policy
This page explains how brownsriver.com, the website of Browns River Ledger, uses cookies. It's short, because the site uses almost none.
Effective date: October 2026
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website asks your browser to store. They're often used to keep people signed in, to remember preferences, or to track behavior for analytics and advertising. Some are set by the site you're visiting; others, called third-party cookies, are set by other companies whose content or code appears on the page.
The one cookie this site sets
The site sets a single cookie, and only for our editors. When an editor signs in to the site's administration area, the site sets a session cookie that keeps them signed in. It is:
- Strictly necessary: the sign-in can't work without it.
- httpOnly: scripts running in the browser can't read it, which protects it against certain kinds of attack.
- Short-lived: it expires within 24 hours, or sooner if the editor signs out.
Readers who don't sign in never receive this cookie.
Cookies we don't set
The site doesn't set analytics cookies, advertising cookies, social media cookies or any other tracking cookies, and it doesn't place third-party cookies on your device. Reading the site doesn't require cookies at all.
Security cookies from our network provider
The site is delivered through Cloudflare, which provides content delivery and security services. To protect the site from automated attacks and abuse, Cloudflare may set strictly necessary cookies of its own, for example to help tell real visitors apart from bots, or to remember that your browser has already passed a security check. These cookies exist for security, and we don't use them for analytics or advertising. Cloudflare describes its cookies on its own website.
Controlling cookies
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers let you:
- see which cookies are stored, and delete them
- block cookies from all sites or from particular sites
- block third-party cookies while allowing others
- clear cookies automatically when you close the browser
Your browser's help pages explain how. If you block all cookies, you can still read everything on the site, although you may occasionally be asked to complete a security check, and editors won't be able to sign in.
Changes and contact
If the way the site uses cookies changes, we'll update this page and its effective date. Questions can be sent through our contact form. For more about how we handle personal information in general, see our Privacy Policy.
